MS Albatros catered very well for kids with themed parties, clubs, a video arcade, a separate family pool (with shallow areas for children). German was the only language officially used on board. This is why most Phoenix Reisen cruise passengers are from German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland). The vessel was chosen as a replacement for the original Albatros, which was built in 1957. 2005: From September to December, the new Albatros is extensively rebuilt at the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg. 2008: In November, the ship is sold to MS Albatros Shipping Ltd, but Phoenix Reisen’s charter is kept with no changes. On Jan 31 at 5 p.m. The barge was berthed at Koblenz after lightering of the cargo. The 'Albatros'/'Idefix' were secured at the Lehmen lock. The water ingress into the pushed barge 'Idefix' could be controlled with submersible pumps of the local fire brigades. In the evening hours divers were able to patch the leak temporarily.
