Any of numerous amphibians related to the frogs. Toads usually have broader bodies and shorter legs than frogs, and their feet have only a little webbing. Their skin is thick, rough, and often bumpy, and sometimes secretes toxic substances. Toads usually do not live in water as adults but prefer cool, moist places on the ground. Compare frog.
